Growing Readers from Birth
Parents using a public library or bookstore may often be overwhelmed by the number of books now available for children. Because reading aloud to children is so important in their language acquisition, we want to help. Our Leading to Reading program presents developmental milestones for parents to watch for as well as age appropriate book suggestions for children birth to age 5. Each Leading to Reading set includes 61 postcards, color-coded by year, reflecting a wide variety of authors and genres.

Leading to Reading Makes a Great Gift!
Many grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends have purchased complete sets of Leading to Reading postcards to give as gifts to new or expectant parents. Here are some ideas for how to creatively present this gift or combine it with books or other items for a special gift that will be treasured for many years to come.
- Combine a set of Leading to Reading postcards with a special blanket or stuffed animal that the child can hold during story time with mom or dad.
- Give a set of Leading to Reading postcards as a group gift at a baby shower. Everyone can purchase one or two of the suggested books listed on the cards and write a special message to the child on the inside cover of the book.
- Purchase or build a child-size bookshelf that could be given along with a set of a Leading to Reading postcards and a book or two. The shelf could even be personalized with the child’s name.
